Baptism
As our underlying purpose for existing is to see people transformed through surrender and submission in relationship to Jesus, baptism is a necessary and expected step in the process. We will teach that it is the Biblically articulated next step after their life has been surrendered to Jesus. Baptism by water was first taught by John the Baptist in the Gospels, exemplified by Jesus, and seen throughout the beginning stages of the church for new believers. It is inherently a work of the Spirit, but God has chosen water to work in conjunction to represent the burial of the old life that an individual is leaving behind and the new life that comes to pass when they come back out of the water. It is the public declaration that they now belong to Jesus and have new life in Him. Not only that, but the waters of baptism is an ushering in of the individual into the body of believers, the Church. It is the representation that they now belong to this family. As we walk with the members of our body to new faith in Jesus, we will articulate the importance and necessity of baptism and celebrate their new life with them.
how is this practiced?
House church offers a unique experience when it comes to doing life with one another. When a person commits their life to Christ in the presence of their community, it is a holy moment. At One City when one chooses baptism, we will baptize them in our home in a pool, located inside or out, in the presence of the whole body to celebrate with one another.
